WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT AN ACUPUNCTURE APPOINTMENT?
Your individual treatment plan is quite unique. The acupuncturist arrives at a “traditional” Oriental medical diagnosis using “traditional” methodology. An interview with medical history, pulse and examination of tongue are tools used in determining a “traditional" diagnosis. Treatment involves inserting a few very thin disposable sterile needles into specific acupuncture points. The insertion of the needle may feel like a quick pinch or be hardly noticeable. Sensations of pressure, distention, heat or tingling may follow at the site of insertion. The needles may be further stimulated by careful manual manipulation, mild electric current or gentle heat from the burning of an herb, Moxa, traditionally used as a heat therapy with acupuncture which also tonifies and moves the stagnation or blockages of Qi and blood.
ARE THE NEEDLES SAFE AND STERILE? All needles used in this clinic are disposable. This means that only pre-packaged, sterile needles are used on a patient, one time only. Once used, they are discarded appropriately as indicated by law.
DO THE EFFECTS ENDURE? The acupuncturist’s goal is not only to alleviate the symptoms associated with your ailment but to address the underlying cause as well. Several factors determine the number of treatments required to effect change, among these are age, life style, state of general health, duration and severity of the disease stage. Acupuncture effects are cumulative and long lasting.
WHAT ABOUT NON NEEDLE TREATMENT? Small magnets can be substituted in place of needles and sometimes are more effective. Magnets are used for those who have needle phobias and with children when appropriate. Other non-needle therapies include , Moxa therapy, Infrared Heat Therapy, Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency Therapy Chinese Herbs
HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT? A treatment may take from 45 minutes to one hour.
